Kindred

You arrive in a village where something went wrong.

A guard abandoned his post.
The fields are choking with ash.
The village has already decided who is to blame.

No one agrees on what really happened.

You talk to people, follow what doesn’t add up, and decide what you think is true.

About the Game

Kindred is a narrative RPG where conversation drives the experience.

You move through a world shaped by emotion, expressed through the people you meet and the situations they are caught in.

You listen, ask questions, and choose how far to push.
Over time, your understanding of each situation takes shape based on what you notice and how you interpret it.

How You Play

Listen

Conversations unfold gradually.

People hesitate, contradict themselves, or leave things unsaid.
Paying attention to tone and detail matters as much as the words themselves.

Dig Deeper

At any point, you can push the conversation further.

You can ask harder questions, stay on uncomfortable topics, or challenge what someone is saying.

This can lead to new insight, but it also increases pressure.

If you push too far, the conversation can break.

Patience

Each character has a limited amount of emotional bandwidth.

Some choices create space and build trust.
Others add pressure and risk shutting the interaction down.

Managing that balance is central to how the game plays.

Putting Things Together

As you explore, you gather small pieces of information.

A hesitation.
A contradiction.
A detail that does not quite fit.

Individually, they are easy to overlook.
Taken together, they begin to shape how you understand what happened.

The World

Each region focuses on a different emotional situation.

A village dealing with blame after a tragedy.
A community shaped by resentment.
A place where grief has stalled daily life.

At the center of each is a person the world has already formed an opinion about.

You arrive after that judgment has already taken hold.

The Entities

At key moments, you encounter entities that reflect on your choices.

They do not give answers.
They ask you to explain your own.

These moments serve as a way to examine how you are making sense of what you have seen.

What Kindred Is About

Kindred is about understanding people and deciding what to do with that understanding.

Prototype

This is a prototype build of Kindred.

It focuses on:

  • conversational tension and pacing
  • the Dig Deeper system
  • how players form interpretations from incomplete information

This version is intended to test how emotional understanding can emerge through interaction, rather than being explained directly.
